Pragmaticus, huge valves provider based in German, delivered gate valves for the test stand of one of the leading pump manufacturers in Europe.
A gate valve which Pragmaticus supply is based on Pengineering capabilities and previous industrial experience and deep manufacturing knowledge. These reasons allow Pragmaticus gate valves being used on leading pump manufacturer’s test stand.
To understand why gate valves are necessary on test stand for pumps’ checking some words about gate valves’ and pumps’ work principle.
A gate valve (so-named for working process: the part that either stops or allows flow through the valve acts as like as a gate does) opens by lifting a round or rectangular gate out of the path of the fluid. When the valve is wide open the gate is fully drawn up into the valve bonnet (reminding metro gates) and allows a stream to flow further. But there is a little pressure drop or flow restriction during passing through the valve because gate aperture for flow through has the valve the same size as the pipe in which the valve was installed.
The gate valves are mostly used for liquid streams. And in the same time the pumps are used to move fluids (liquids, slurries, or gases). A pump displaces a volume by physical or mechanical action. That is why test stands for pump checking are equipped by gate valves. Pumps displace fluid, causing a flow. According to the methods for moving a fluid, pumps fall into five major groups: direct lift, displacement, velocity, buoyancy and gravity pumps. Gate valves, established on test stand, help to check displacing process by opening and shutting a gate.
For pump manufacturer test stand allows trying operation in different condition, regimes, with open and shut gate valve. And Pragmaticus valves meet all the requirements of pumps’ industrial tests. (more…)

Test stand as a symbol of high quality level
Tuesday, January 19th, 2010How to choose valve according to industrial requirements
Monday, December 14th, 2009Pragmaticus offers a wide range of valves for industrial applications. The valves are easy and economical way to control and check the flows. No doubt, a valve is more than just an industrial device for turning on and shutting off the flows of fluids and gases.
There are two general groups: stop and check valves (so-called basic valves’ types). Besides, more complicated industrial valves for special, sometimes unique application are also made. All existing valves can’t be classified as easy as “stop” and “check” types as well as all industrial requirements can’t be divided into two groups only. (more…)
Swing check valves
Monday, November 23rd, 2009Swing type is the one of the check valves (name also clack valve, non-return valve or one-way valve). Check valves’ main function is to allow fluid (liquid or gas) to flow through it in only one direction. Therefore, there are some technology features of each type.
A swing check valve has a butterfly shape, where the disc, the movable part used to block the flow, that is why it swings on a hinge or trunnion, either onto the seat to block reverse flow or off the seat to allow forward flow. The seat opening cross-section may be perpendicular to the centerline between the two ports or at an angle.
Turbulence and pressure drop within the valve are very low what makes them more demanded. The next reason why this type of valves is widespread in industrial application is that swing check valves allows full, unobstructed flow and automatically closes as pressure decreases. These valves are fully closed when the flow reaches zero and prevent back flow. (more…)
All about tilting disc check valve: description, main function, leading manufacturer.
Monday, November 23rd, 2009Let’s start from check valves description. This type of industrial valves is classified as one-way directional valves. Why so? Check valves permit gases and liquids to flow in only one direction. This permission prevents process flow from reversing. Tilting disk valves’ type keeps fluid resistance and turbulence low because of its straight-through structure.
Tilting disc check valve has the same working process, it is opened when flow goes through one direction and closes at backflow. Their fast closure system ensures good pump protection and it can be considered as the main application of tilting disc check valves. It is widely used in different industries (agricultural, water system, for aggressive liquid conveyance applications and many others) for gases and liquids and is not recommended when a flow has solids in suspension. Ball valves
Monday, November 2nd, 2009Maybe the most popular natural shape is a ball. Ball valves opens by turning a handle attached to the inside. There is a hole, called “port”, through the middle so that when the port is in line with both ends of the valve, flow will occur. And on the contrary, when a ball valve is closed a flow is blocked. Therefore ball valves are a “right” choice for shut-off applications. But, in any case, ball valve can’t be considered as control valve.
“Alive” diaphragm valves
Monday, November 2nd, 2009A human body is the most perfect mechanism in the world. Why not to take it as a basis? This type of industrial valves named “diaphragm” or “membrane” because of shape, reminding human diaphragm – the main muscle which is responsible for breath. The thin diaphragm has dome-shaped structure and when the diaphragm muscle is reduced, it falls to more flat condition. It attracts vacuum formation in a tracheal cavity and availability of pressure in a belly cavity. The vacuum is filled in at expansion of lungs and accordingly a breath. When the diaphragm relaxes and accepts a dome-shaped condition, air lungs exhaust and reduced. During a dream breath is ensured mainly at the expense of a diaphragm. In industrial applications diaphragm valves have similar functioning. Simply, diaphragm valves are used as shut-off equipment in process systems and consist of a “body” with two, three or even more ports, a diaphragm and seat upon which the diaphragm closes the valve.
Natural shapes as a source of industrial inspiration “Butterfly” shape with high performance
Monday, November 2nd, 2009Natural shapes are widely used in industries: Planes reminding birds flight, streamline of the ships, butterfly and diaphragm valves and many others.
Take a look at butterfly valves structure. In simple terms, “butterfly” shape consists of body, stem, actuator, seat and a circular disc with its pivot axis at right angles to the direction material is flowing. The main idea of butterfly valves is simple: each component part is available in a variety of materials and completes set in order to conform the requirements of each concrete branch. Natural wisdom is embodied in this valve. Simple structure has wide application in completely different industries, from A for mining applications to Z in pharmaceutical. Look at vital sector, such as drinking water, international eco questions such as waste water and sea water treatment, desalination plants applications. In each of them butterfly valves are used successfully. It is impossible to imagine nowadays chemical industry without sterile and high quality industrial valves application. The same is about pharmacy, food and beverage manufacturing. Mining industry requires completely different metals and technical characteristics. But even in this case “butterfly” structure can be used with high performance.
